As part of the enviromental
impact report into the proposed fishmeal factory at Sellaness a
series of 6 images was produced.
These show the factory and
pier extension from various viewpoints in the surrounding area as
a guide to the visual impact, and also to give a clear view of what
is being proposed and how it would fit into the existing landscape
Starting from the engineering
CAD drawings we were then able to create a 3d model of the whole
area, with everything in he right location and to the right scale.
With the photos of the existing views on the computer too we then
aligned a virtual camera to match the location and properties of
the photos exactly.

In the case of the aerial
photo there was no budget to shoot a specific image, and so the
best available photo had to be reworked to cover the area needed.
This meant painitng in a large part of the background using other
photos as reference. The area covered on the existing photo can
be seen in the "before" shot above by moving your mouse
over the picture.

The
detailed textures and materials were built up from photos of similar
materials and added to the 3d models which were then rendered and
added to the photos, with lots of extra compositing work carried
out to match colours and lighting and to make everything sit well
together in the final images

The completed series of images, including cleaned up "before
shots" was supplied to the client on disk for inclusion in
their final enviromental imapct report, as well as possible future
web and print use.
